The Philadelphia Eagles addressed their tight end depth in round 3 of the 2026 NFL Draft, selecting Texas product Eli Stowers. The 6'4", 250-pound tight end brings exactly what this offense needs: a physical presence at the point of attack.

Why the Eagles Loved Stowers

Philadelphia runs one of the most physical offenses in the NFL. Their tight ends are asked to do more than catch passes - they're expected to be an extension of the offensive line on running plays.

Stowers fits that mold perfectly. At Texas, he was known for:

  • Elite blocking technique and physicality
  • Reliable hands in the middle of the field
  • Willingness to compete for every yard after the catch
  • Toughness - he rarely missed a game due to injury

The Learning Opportunity

Perhaps the best part of this selection is who Stowers gets to learn from. Dallas Goedert is one of the best all-around tight ends in football, and having him as a mentor should accelerate Stowers' development.

The Eagles won't ask the rookie to carry the tight end room. Instead, he'll learn the nuances of the position from a Pro Bowl-caliber player while contributing on early downs and short-yardage situations.

The Complete TE Room

Philadelphia now has one of the deeper tight end groups in the league:

  • Dallas Goedert - The established star
  • Eli Stowers - The physical rookie
  • Grant Calcaterra - Reliable veteran
  • Jaheim Bell - Athletic upside

What to Expect Year One

Don't expect Stowers to put up huge receiving numbers as a rookie. His value will be measured in pancake blocks, yards after contact created for Saquon Barkley, and clutch third-down conversions.

But make no mistake - the Eagles see long-term starter potential here. When Goedert's contract is up, Stowers could be ready to take over as the TE1.

Welcome to Philly, Eli. Time to get to work.
