Eagles Trade Up to Draft Makai Lemon: The Next Great Slot Receiver?

In a move that shocked nobody watching the draft unfold, the Philadelphia Eagles traded up with the Dallas Cowboys to select USC wide receiver Makai Lemon with the 20th overall pick.

Yes, you read that right. The Cowboys helped the Eagles get their guy. Dallas received picks 23, 114, and 137 in exchange for the 20th pick and a seventh-rounder. The Birds didn't hesitate when they saw Lemon still on the board.

A Biletnikoff Winner Comes to Philly

Lemon isn't just any receiver - he's the Biletnikoff Award winner, given to college football's best pass catcher. In his breakout 2025 campaign at USC, Lemon posted 79 receptions for 1,156 yards and 11 touchdowns.

Scouts are already drawing comparisons to Amon-Ra St. Brown, and they're not wrong. Lemon has the short-area quickness, route nuance, and competitive fire to become the NFL's next elite slot receiver.

What This Means for the Eagles

The selection of Lemon adds another weapon to an already loaded receiving corps. With DeVonta Smith on the outside and Lemon in the slot, the Eagles have a dynamic duo that can create mismatches all over the field.

GM Howie Roseman shared a wild story about the pick: "It took us a couple of minutes to contact the player and get him on the phone. That hasn't happened very often." Apparently, Lemon was on the phone with the Steelers when the Eagles swooped in.

That's the kind of aggressive move we love to see from Howie. Fly Eagles Fly!
