The Philadelphia Eagles continue to build their running back room, signing former Houston Texans back Dameon Pierce to a one-year, $1.29 million deal.
Remember 2022?
Pierce burst onto the scene as a rookie in 2022, rushing for 939 yards and 4 touchdowns while earning a spot on the PFWA All-Rookie Team. His physical, downhill running style made him a fan favorite in Houston.
However, his role diminished significantly over the past two seasons as the Texans brought in other backs. Pierce managed just 518 yards in 2023 and saw even less work in 2025.
The Fit in Philadelphia
The Eagles now have a three-headed monster at running back:
- Saquon Barkley - The bell cow and offensive centerpiece
- Tank Bigsby - Power back and short-yardage specialist
- Dameon Pierce - Change-of-pace option and injury insurance
Pierce's running style actually fits well with what the Eagles do. He's a physical runner who can grind out tough yards between the tackles - exactly what this offense demands.
Low Risk, High Reward
At just $1.29 million, there's virtually no risk in this signing. If Pierce can recapture his rookie form, the Eagles have stolen a productive back. If not, he's a quality depth piece who understands his role.
"We like our running back room," GM Howie Roseman said. "Dameon gives us another option, another physical runner who can step in if needed."
Training Camp Battle
Pierce will compete with Kenny Gainwell and Will Shipley for roster spots. The Eagles typically carry four backs, so there's room for everyone - but Pierce will need to show he can contribute on special teams as well.
